Spotlight on Travel Therapy Recruiting with Tony Marino

Tony Marino recently celebrated 16 years with Cariant Health Partners. In 2008, several acquaintances encouraged Tony to apply at Cariant — and the rest, as they say, is history.

The travel staffing industry — especially in terms of rehab therapy — has seen significant evolution in the past few years.

“Things had been pretty stable for a while,” explains Tony, “but immediately after COVID-19 hit, we were swamped with resumes from therapists seeking work — perm or travel — and there just wasn’t much out there.”

Now the situation has reversed. With staffing companies eager to sign qualified travel therapists, Cariant’s meaningful connection to its parent company, RehabVisions, helps set itself apart from the rest.

“As Cariant recruiters, we can leverage that our founder, Joel Larmore, is a physical therapist who also built RehabVisions, a contract therapy company that’s thrived for over four decades now,” says Tony.

“This unique relationship allows us to be more knowledgeable about the rehab industry’s regulations, trends and nuances than any other travel staffing company out there.”

One of Tony’s primary tasks is to provide travelers to fill staffing gaps at his parent company’s own contract facilities and outpatient clinics.

Along with several other Cariant recruiters who directly source and provide candidates, Tony also serves as a Managed Service Provider (MSP), working with outside staffing partners to further expand options for candidate sourcing.

“I work personally with operations managers to get updates on where and when they need critical temporary help from our travelers,” says Tony. “At the end of the day, patient care is paramount.”

Teamwork plays a crucial role in achieving recruitment goals at Cariant.

“I love our team,” says Tony. “There is so much incoming information out there, so it’s nice to have some extra eyes and ears to help match candidates to some opportunities we might not have otherwise been aware about.”

Communication is the cornerstone of the Cariant team, according to Tony. “We value each other’s strengths and insights—whether it’s through client relationships, sharing candidate marketing techniques or tapping into a fellow recruiter’s knowledge base and experience.”

“I love the opportunity to help my travelers fulfill their professional dreams while helping our clients relieve urgent staffing gap situations,” says Tony. “And as unique as people are, there is never room for any boredom in my days.”

Looking ahead, Tony sees a promising future for rehab therapy staffing amid demographic shifts and technological advancements.

“As the population grows and as people live longer, the demand for rehab professionals will continue,” he says. “And we’ll be here to connect people and meet their needs.”
